Paul gets to Romans 5 having clearly and thoroughly laid the foundation - in chapters 1 to 4 - for Justification (being made right with God) by faith alone. Because of this wonderful truth we stand in an incredible ‘grace’ (Rom 5:2), and can face suffering with confidence in God’s ability to work things for His glory, and for our good. Paul shows how, in responding to suffering with faith and trust in God, the Christian gains perseverance, character, and hope.
